Each ball is rolled by hand from raw wool, dyed, dried, then stitched to its neighbours to build up the disc. Wool is a natural insulator, so the trivet takes a hot pan straight off the stove without scorching, and the coasters absorb condensation instead of sliding it around the table.
They flatten under weight and spring back, they do not scratch a table top, and a spill rinses out under cold water.
