Hand-hammered by a family of bowl smiths outside Kathmandu using the traditional seven-metal alloy. The bowl is beaten from a single disc over hundreds of strikes, which is what produces the layered overtones a cast bowl cannot match, the tone keeps unfolding for well over a minute rather than fading flat.
Played by striking the rim or by running the wooden mallet around it. Used for meditation, sound baths, yoga classes and simply marking the start and end of a quiet hour.
